The Yahoo! Buyer Protection Program
Although the vast majority of Yahoo! Shopping transactions are trouble-free, we are introducing the Yahoo! Buyer Protection Program to further protect shoppers and reduce fraud on Yahoo! Shopping. Most items purchased through Yahoo! Shopping are covered by this program, which is backed by insurance obtained through Lloyd's of London. We offer this program to all shoppers free of charge. In the unlikely event of fraud, the Yahoo! Buyer Protection Program provides an additional measure of safety.
Fraud is defined as:
- Paying for an item that is not received; or
- Receiving an item that is materially different than what is described.
What is the Yahoo! Buyer Protection Program?
The Yahoo Protection Program covers any item purchased through Yahoo! Shopping as long as that item does not violate our terms of service. We offer two levels of protection: standard protection and premium protection.
Standard protection covers purchases of up to $750. Premium protection, available only when the transaction is completed using Yahoo! Wallet, covers purchases of up to $1000.
All claims must be filed with cynoSure Financial, our claims administrator, within 60 days of the purchase. There is a lifetime limit of two claims per user on items purchased through Yahoo! Shopping.
How does it work?
If you made a purchase through Yahoo! Shopping and feel that you were a victim of fraud, follow these steps:
- First, try to communicate directly with the merchant. Many problems are simple misunderstandings. You'll find the merchant's contact information on your order confirmation or on your order status page.
- If you are unable to resolve the matter with the merchant, file a complaint with the Yahoo! Customer Care department. We will keep a record of your complaint.
- Once received, the complaint will be handled through our Complaint Resolution Process. We will send an email to you and the merchant confirming receipt of the complaint and providing an explanation of the next steps. The email to the merchant will include a description of your complaint.
- If we are unable to resolve your dispute with the merchant and you feel that you were a victim of fraud, you can apply for the Buyer Protection by mailing your complaint to our claims administrator, along with copies of all supporting documents (i.e., email communications with the seller, proof of payment, photographs of the item, etc.). Your claim must be postmarked within 60 days of purchase.
- Once you've filed your claim, the claims administrator will investigate the sale to determine whether fraud has occurred and will contact you with their decision within 45 days of receipt of your claim and all relevant documents. If you are involved in a claim, Yahoo! may share certain transaction information with cynoSure Financial Inc. in order to facilitate the investigation and resolution of the claim. cynoSure Financial Inc. may only use this information in order to process claims.
